Guides
What short dramas and micro dramas are
A short drama, also called a micro drama, is a serialized story told in very brief episodes, filmed for a phone held upright. A single series can run to dozens of episodes, and each one is usually a minute or two long, ending on a twist that makes you want the next.
The apps on this site, from ReelShort and DramaBox to ShortMax, DramaWave, NetShort, FlickReels, Pine Drama, My Drama, GoodShort and FlexTV, all package that idea differently. Their official pages describe romance, billionaire, werewolf, mafia and revenge stories as the common genres.
How the money works
The pattern is almost the same everywhere. The app is free to download, the first episodes of a series cost nothing, and later episodes are locked. You then unlock them with coins, with a membership, or sometimes by watching ads or finishing daily tasks.
Coins are in-app currency. They are bought in packs, they have no cash value, and the terms of several apps say they cannot be exchanged for money and may disappear when an account closes. Because every episode costs some coins, a long series can add up faster than the pack price suggests.
Memberships are the part to read carefully. Many apps sell a weekly pass or weekly VIP that renews automatically, and the store listings show it as one of the most expensive tiers. Left running, a weekly charge quietly becomes a large yearly one.
How to choose an app
Decide first how you watch. If you follow one series now and then, an app that lets you earn coins through ads or check-ins and sells small coin packs will cost less than a membership. If you binge several series a week, a membership can make sense, but only if you can cancel it easily.
Then compare the things that actually differ: how generous the free access is, whether you can cancel on the web as well as in the store, what the refund terms say, and whether the catalogue has the kind of story you like. Our comparison table scores each app on those points, and each review shows the live store prices.
- Free access: how many episodes and what unlocks more
- Price structure: coins, weekly pass, monthly pass
- Cancelling: store only, or website too
- Refunds: what the terms promise
- Catalogue and ads: what you get for watching
How to avoid surprise charges
Check the billing period before you tap a plan. The price on the button is often per week, not per month, and a cheap-looking first-week offer is followed by the regular rate. Several official terms say payments are final and not refundable, even for unused time.
Deleting the app does not stop a subscription. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least a day before the renewal date, and set a reminder when you start a trial.
Series made with AI
Some short drama series are now made, or partly made, with AI tools. A few apps say so on their official pages, others describe optional AI features such as turning a photo into a video, and most say nothing at all.
If that interests you, or worries you, our guide to AI dramas lists what each app states and what to check before you upload a photo of yourself to any app.
Questions people ask
What is the best short drama app?
It depends on how you watch. Look for generous free episodes, a membership you can cancel easily and a catalogue you enjoy. Our comparison table scores the main apps on those points using their official pages.
Are short drama apps free?
They are free to download and the first episodes of most series cost nothing. Later episodes usually need coins, a membership, ads or daily tasks, and the official pages rarely say how many episodes are free.
What is a micro drama?
A micro drama is a serial story told in episodes of a minute or two, filmed for vertical phone screens. Each episode typically ends on a cliffhanger to pull you into the next one.
Why am I being charged every week?
You most likely started a weekly pass or VIP membership, which renews automatically until cancelled. Deleting the app does not end it. Cancel in your iPhone or Android subscription settings.
Can I get a refund on coins or a weekly pass?
Usually not from the app. Several official terms say payments are final. If you paid through Apple or Google, you can ask them for a refund, though approval is up to them.
Are short drama apps safe?
The big ones are run by registered companies, but read the privacy policy and the age ratings, which sometimes differ between the terms and the stores. Be careful with uploading personal photos.
